Why a podcast project?

Last semester in English, we worked on personal essays and pieces of creative nonfiction so we shifted gears to create a podcast. This podcast project granted us the opportunity to work with a new medium, thus expanding our storytelling skills. “Call Your Girlfriend,” hosted by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow provided the main inspiration for my podcast.

About the Podcast

“Women Against the Patriarchy,” also known as WAP, explores the ways our modern world perpetuates the patriarchy through misogyny, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination.

About Charissa

Charissa Vesurai is a senior at Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy. She enjoys reading, dancing, listening to music, producing films, and criticizing men. As a radical feminist, Vesurai is extremely passionate about achieving liberation for women and other genderqueer folk. After high school, they will be attending the University of Edinburgh to study philosophy and linguistics.

Reflection

I enjoyed being able to choose a topic both my partner and I cared a lot for this project. I thought being able to structure our episode without strict guidelines allowed for more creativity. We faced some challenges like not being able to record together but with the right planning, we managed to figure it out. While on a call, we recorded ourselves separately and then edited it all together.
