Because my mother is Asian, we have two different rules that I assumed that everyone did when I was younger.  The first one is the more well known Asian thing: no shoes in the house! I used to get confused when I went to friends houses &amp; they would walk all over the carpet in their shoes. The second practice is our &#8220;communal sandals&#8221;. People can just leave their flip flops outside &amp; anyone who needs them can just use them whenever.
