Media

Introduction

The explorations project is a timein freestyle where all the

juniors explore topics of interest, they could be anything. I chose to study how the medium it is expressed through changes the art. The benefits of using sculpture, photography, painting, drawing. What each can contribute to a piece of art, and the limitations of each. How within each the different methods and materials can change the feel of a piece. My production was to make the same object in different mediums to show the different feelings each portray.

Process

I started my explorations project by researching different types of art mediums. I went and found sites that talked about the strengths and weaknesses of different types of, paints, pencils, etc. This let me understand more about many different materials didn’t know about. I also used a sculpture textbook to find the pros and cons of using materials like wood or stone to make sculptures. I then used the information to make an infographic that uses that information to try and help someone out of “artist block” by giving a medium that is right for the idea.

Final Production

Making my infographic I chose originally to go with a flow chart. Using the information I gathered I made paths that end in different mediums so that someone could get a jist of what they could use. When I finished the infographic it looked very cluttered and to crazy. I tried to simplify it a bit, but it still didn’t work right. I then decided to change it into a “color wheel” where you would still take paths to the end, but it looked less cluttered and more organized.

Reflection

In the explorations project what mostly got me was time. At the beginning 3 weeks seemed very long, however it close quickly. At the beginning of the project I wanted to make the same object in different mediums to showcase how it portrayed different feelings, however the time needed to do that quickly passed and it ended up not being doable. I also learned a lot about how to use different art materials, and how they work.

My freestyle experience this year has been full. In many different circumstances I have tried to take on projects that were too ambitious for me to complete, in some occasions i roe to meet it and in some i tried my best to minimize the damage. I have learned a lot while I have been here, I didn’t know anything about how to operate a camera in manual mode, and now I know how shutter speed, aperture, and Iso affects a photo. I have also learned how to create a website, and some of the coding that goes into it (enough so that I can mess with websites in developer mode). I have also learned how to use industry standard programs like Protools, InDesign, DreamWeaver, Animate, Illustrate, and other Adobe programs.
