Profile of Arlene Miyata
Home

Welcome to my website for the Profile Unit! Our goal for this unit was to bring alight to an individual we found important and inspiring in the community. For those very reasons, I dedicate this webpage to Arlene Miyata. As a music teacher, she is enriching the lives of the next generation with the arts and teaching them skillsets that may not be found in a regular classroom setting. I had the chance to first meet her back in 2009, while I was a seventh-grader at Crittenden Middle School. Since then, we have grown close and I respect her as a teacher, while also viewing her as a friend and adult figure in my life who would come to my aid when I’m in need of it. Taking everything I’ve learned in WebAudio, English, and Design at Freestyle, I created, what I hope to be, the very best I am capable of achieving at this point in time as a tribute to Arlene Miyata.

In English, we were asked to write a five-page profile and conduct interviews in order to best showcase our chosen individual. Writing a profile is one task, but also ensuring the profile is equally entertaining and informational was a different story. The goal was to be as informative as possible and have the profile not be bland and simply stating facts. We shadowed our individual in order to recreate what we personally experienced into a story for our audience to read about, and understand our individual on a deeper level; something cold, hard facts cannot do. With my scenes, I really wanted to encompass how humorous and compassionate Arlene can be.

Creating a magazine layout to showcase our work and photos with Adobe inDesign became our Design project portion. Figuring out a design that I believed best represented Arlene was no easy task and involved many drafts. Each detail had to be taken into account in terms of color, what each page would look like, and what images would be used. I took what I knew Arlene enjoyed, along with a color that is whimsical for her personality, to design my layout.

I have also compiled a variety of photos for everyone to get bigger glimpse of Arlene Miyata's life.

Presentation

Taking everything I have learned in the entire unit, my presentation not only exemplifies how I grew as a person from knowing Arlene Miyata, but how Freestyle has helped shape me into what I am now. I may have learned about Adobe programs and how to skillfully navigate them, but what really inspired me was what learning those skills helped me realized: what I am really passionate about. I discuss this all in my 5 - 7 minute presentation for my Freestyle peers and teachers.
