{"id":19,"date":"2025-09-26T17:01:37","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T17:01:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freestyleacademy.rocks\/~DaphneH\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2026-06-05T03:36:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T03:36:28","slug":"explorations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/freestyleacademy.rocks\/~DaphneH\/explorations\/","title":{"rendered":"Explorations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the explorations project, we were tasked with answering the question: &#8220;How can you find, explore, and\/or expand your passion?&#8221; Originally, I had no idea what I wanted to do because there were so many options. I genuinely could make whatever I wanted, because the purpose was to explore. I ended up choosing to do a stop motion animation with clay because I am a film student and haven&#8217;t done a lot of animation. I wanted to do a bunny because I have two bunnies and I think they&#8217;re really cute. I was also inspired by the characters in claymations like Wallace and Gromit or Shaun the Sheep. So I think my character is kind of comical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Explorations Project - DaphneH\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5WTgYQ7s6VI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the final production of my explorations project. Overall, I was happy with it but I think I could&#8217;ve developed a stronger storyline if I had more time. Additionally, I underestimated how many photos a stop motion actually needs to look really smooth. Which I didn&#8217;t know until I was editing my photos together. If I could re-do the project, I would spend more time making a story and taking more photos with smaller movements. One thing I valued was being able to learn about animation because I haven&#8217;t done a lot of animation before. It was also cool to make my own character and shape him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the poetry project, we got to write poems and workshop them in class. A Poet-in-Residence came to help teach us about poems and we made a lot of drafts from her workshop. In fact, my final poem was based off of one of my drafts from her excersizes. We made cento poems, which is basically making a poem from other people&#8217;s poems, a poem based off of a newspaper article, and then a poem talking about how we feel about poetry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And Still I Scroll&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Daphne Heatherly&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scroll.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My thumb flicks at the screen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Like the video before I even watch it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Something funny, yet something forgettable<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Filling my head with noise<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My brother walks past<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I don\u2019t look up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My face glows from the screen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>While he stands waiting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hoping to be noticed&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For a second, he lingers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Then he disappears when he realizes&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I am somewhere else entirely.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My mom speaks to me&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>While I nod at a screen instead of her face&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cYeah.\u201d \u201cOkay.\u201d \u201cMhm.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Words tossed over my shoulder.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Later, guilt arrives quietly&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>But in the moment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>the screen feels magnetic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A pull stronger than eye contact.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I write this poem knowing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>that tonight<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I will probably reach&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>for my phone again.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I will unlock it without thinking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scroll without remembering&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And while the screen keeps feeding me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>real life will keep happening&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Moments disappearing faster than I notice them&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The cruelest part is this:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I can see it happening&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>while it happens<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>and still I scroll.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"2160\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 3840 \/ 2160;\" width=\"3840\" controls src=\"https:\/\/freestyleacademy.rocks\/~DaphneH\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/25-26-p4-Poetry-DaphneH.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think my production conveyed the meaning of my poem pretty well, especially because I put in a typing font, which helps connect it to the technology aspect of my poem. A creative freedom I valued in my poem production was being able to animate the text, especially because it was my poem so it got to be my own thing.
