Last but not least...

To enjoy the last few weeks at Freestyle, we were introduced to the unit where we are graded, but with the biggest opportunity to express any creativity and skills that we have learned throughout the year(s).

The projects that are included are a satire piece, reading a book that goes in depth about the human mind called "Blink," and a project that allowed us to discover and create a new piece about anything-still using Freestyle techniques.

In Web Audio, the major technique learned for the Explorations unit is creating this website you are looking at. As you can see, and experience, when you alter your web page to different sizes (narrow, wide, small, big), all of the content within the page remains visible for you. This is due to what we call, a "Responsive Web Page."

In addition to new Web techniques, there was a gain in knowledge by reading Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink." This is about the subconscious mind, where we were to not only read about it, but connect to it through given prompts. We connected by not only writing about each, but also by creating an art piece whether it be in pastels and water color, or cut up magazines formed in a collage. We eventually narrowed down to a prompt and design piece that we favorited most, and made our own creation out of it, extending the free range of creativity.

During the Satire unit, another portion of the Explorations unit, we were to create some kind of presentation that satirized anything existent in the world that we find funny/odd/absurd- as long as we're funny. To do this we studied different types of comedy in English, then used our own comedial knowledge into our own mini comedy central to perform. My project revolved around an absurd crime scene, mocking Law & Order, exaggerating certain aspects of our crime scene, and throwing lightening up such a dark subject to something silly by incorporating a nonserious object that the crime scene revolved around. This is known as blue humor.

For Design, since the piece was meant to represent the subject we did our English project, I had a friend model for me as an "FBI agent" while I created a crime scene that revolved around the watermelon. What is the funny part of the photo? The fact that the photo is so serious revolved around a cracked fruit that is portrayed as a death as a knife is stabbed in it, with red food coloring to represent blood... This piece is called "A Meloncholy Night," hence why I mispelled "melancholy."

The last piece in Web Audio that shows how much we've learned, besides a website... is a Mini-Project, that for me happens to be a song. I used Garage Band for basic beats, and Pro Tools for editing. I wanted to get more familiar with the basics of Pro Tools since it is such a big program with many diverse advantages and fun aspects. And so I did.
