Explorations

Introduction

The last unit of the freestyle classes is the exploration unit. Freestyle students were given a chance to explore and expand a particular skill. These skill also need to address a 21st Century Skill. I have choose airbrushing as a skill I wanted to explore of. One of reason I choose the airbrush as the skill I want to explore is that the skill is very versatile- airbrushing can be utilized on different mediums such as clothing or a 3d printed objects.  Another reason why I choose airbrush as the skill I wanted to learn is airbrushing and 3d printing goes hand in hand. There are three 3d print in freestyle and I like to use them in the future.  The airbrushing skill can enhance the printed product. Ms. Parkinson at this time also have brought a brand new airbrushing. This skill addressed Technological literacy as one of the 21st century skill.

Exploration process

I started with research on the airbrushing like how to setup the airbrush, how to draw with the airbrush, and how to cleanup after I am done painting. During the research process, I discover that airbrushing can also to utilized on glass or makeup. A large chuck of research lay with the dvd that come with the airbrush kit. In the DvD, I learn the common mistakes that can occur during the airbrushing process and many other information.

With the equipment that Ms. Parkinson provide, I can get started on the airbrushing process. I begin to familiarize myself  with the airbrush and how to handle the tool by drawing dots and lines. . Later on I started experiment with spraying the paint evenly over an area. The distance between the airbrush and the paper is key.  If the airbrush is too close with the paper, the paint will spatter and create a shape called spider. This is one of the mistake I am try to avoid. If the airbrush is too far alway from the paper, the paint may not even reach the paper and make it more difficult to accurately paint.

Infographic

The exploration project requires a infographic alongside the main project. I created a infographic about the common mistake that a person who started out can make. During the making of the infographic, I wanted an image for the airbrush. I do not want to take a photo of it since it can look pretty ugly. So I decide to trace an photo of airbrush for the shape and shading in Adobe Illustrator. Then I put in the mistake that is commonly made.

Conclusion

This is the exploration project. I like this project a lot since the airbrushing process is enjoyable.  I values this experience of learning a brand new skill – airbrush. I also have the chance to create a infographic that is related to the skill that I just learn.
