About

For our podcast unit in English class, my friend Charissa and I decided to create a podcast titled WAP (“Women Against the Patriarchy”), in which we discussed the issues of misogyny and gender stereotyping in our everyday lives. Our goal was to educate our listeners of these issues and their prevalence in our society, as well as connect our experience to deeper-rooted issues stemmed in history.

As raging feminists, we were inspired by our previous English unit and reading “Citizen” by Claudia Rankine to express our thoughts on the intersectionality of race and misogyny. Podcast-wise, “Call Your Girlfriend,” hosted by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow was our main inspiration, after which we modeled our casual conversation-style. Though we ran into several challenges such as distanced learning, we were able to overcome them by recording separately on a phone call and editing our voices together cohesively.

Reflection

I enjoyed being able to choose a topic both my partner and I cared a lot for this project, as well as having a loose structure to make the episode feel more like a conversation rather than a prepared talk. If given the opportunity, I would love to record another episode of a podcast in the future.
