Explorations
introduction

Welcome to my explorations website. Here you can find all of the projects that I worked on during my final unit here at Freestyle Academy. This unit explored the meaning of thought and how it effects the way we act. The unit started off with humor and the different tools used for comedy and then carried over to "Blink," which was a week dedicated to putting us in a state of mind that would develop our creativity. The purpose of the unit was to give us the chance to utilize all of the skills and techniques taught to us at Freestyle. It was meant to showcase everything that we have learned in our time here.

As a first year senior at Freestyle, I started out the year very nervous and overwhelmed by all of the technology and tools used here. However, now that my year here is ending, I can say with confidence that I have learned countless skills here that I will take with me for the rest of my life.

blink

A few weeks into the unit, our English and Design classes combined to work on the Blink portion of the unit. We read the novel "Blink" by Malcom Gladwell and spent our class time doing activities such as meditation, free writes, and fine art. By the end, we were instructed to choose our favorite free write prompt and its corresponding fine art piece and turn it into a digital artwork. Below, you can find the final products from this "Amplified" project.

humor

In English class, we were introduced to the value and effectiveness of humor--specifically satire. We analyzed different humorists and eventually made our own comedy piece to present to the class. My fellow Freestyle peer, Annamari J, and I made an infomercial poking fun at the sometimes useless information and products sold to American consumers. We made our own infomercial and showed it to the class, promoting our Product (Pour On Makeup!) as much as we could. You can watch our humor presentation below.

In Design class, we were told to create a photo or image that somehow related to the project we did in English class. I decided to show a screenshot of the advertisments embedded in infomercials. Below you can find the final product of this humor piece.

Infomercial

This piece is poking fun at the way infomercials are structured, and how they all use the same useless phrases to try and lure the customer in. I used both absurd humor as well as exaggeration in order to emphasise the laughable qualities of infomercials. For example, the product being advertised is called “Pour On Makeup,” which is essentially a thick substance that drips over the face like syrup. I am exaggerating the fact that infomercials sometimes create products that are clearly worse than what is already on the market. I used Photoshop to create this piece. I played around with gradients as well as text effects in order to give it that infomercial look. I also decided to use a blue and yellow color scheme as it seems to be a common color scheme found in television advertisements.

mini project

In WebAudio class, we were assigned the "Mini Project." I decided to further explore the effects that Adobe After Effects has to offer. This application is not my strong suit, so I decided to experiment with it in order to better my skills. The main point of the clip is playing around with text and the different animations and 3D effects to can make with it. I learned about the You can find my mini project below.
