The rule of odds in photography is a composition rule that suggests using items in odd groupings such as 3, 5, and 7. I chose to experiment with this rule by photographing fuzzy pom-poms. In this photo, I made a group of three in the front and a group of five in the back. I also used the composition rule “rule of thirds” to frame the two groups of pompoms. I took a lot of photos using different configurations of the rule of thirds and rule of odds. In this photo, I also tried adding depth between the two groups by having the front group in focus and the back group blurred. I did this by using a short, 24mm lens and a lower f-stop. If I could retake this photo, I might try setting the camera up on a tripod. Because of the long shutter speed I used, there was a bit of movement that caused a little blur in the photo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The prompt for this photo was “rule of odds”.
