Documentary

For the Documentary Project, the assignment was to portray an interesting person, group, place, idea, or issue, to tell a story about the subject’s importance. In English, we wrote a research paper to serve as our magazine article for Design/Digital Media.

For my documentary, I focused on my grandma , and the story of when she and her husband and kids lived in Iran before the revolution. I used the dozens of letters she wrote back to her parents as a primary source, and I also interviewed her and my dad. This project was rewarding for me in that I got to think really hard about history and my family, reading through old letters and going through hundreds of old photographs to learn more about people who I already thought I knew really well. This was not my first choice subject for this project, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, it because the project most practical to do for me right now, and it worked out really well for me. In fact, it taught me about the importance of resilience and confidence in unfamiliar circumstances, which is something we all might need right now.
