Hello! My name is Janine and I am a senior at Freestyle Academy where I take classes in English, Digital Media, and Design. I like to spend my free time taking candid photos, running over hurdles, playing cello, reading, and playing board games. I am passionate about everything related to creativity and design thinking. Over the past few years at Freestyle, I have been able to experiment with creating various kinds of art from a documentary book in Design class to parody songs in Digital Media.
Looking forward, I will be attending University of Illinois Urbana Champaign next school year studying Computer Science and Economics. I am extremely excited to study these two fields and find ways to combine computer science with design by exploring human computer interaction research and the UX design field as a possible future career.
Showcase Video – Logo Design
In this video, I will be showcasing my Product Design project from design class. I created a brand logo and mockups of the product and other merchandise. I enjoyed the challenge of creating a brand identity and then communicating the goals of the brand through the logo and label designs.
Showcase reflection
Through making this showcase video I was pushed to find ways to present my work and process in a way that would be easily understandable. I enjoyed getting to use After Effects to play with the timing of additional graphics like stars to indicate what I was talking about in the video. The product design projects at Freestyle Exhibition were what made me originally want to come to Freestyle. Now that I have completed this project, I am proud of the results and hope that my work can inspire others too.

Looking back on all my past projects of the last two years allowed me to see my growth and everything I have learned from at Freestyle. Seeing all the work I am most proud of, I am thankful that Freestyle allowed me to explore so many different forms of art. One project I am most proud of, although it may seem small, is my personal photography. I feel that practicing photography over the years has allowed me to develop a personal style and it is something I find a lot of joy in.

Over the past two years at Freestyle, I have learned to persevere. Before Freestyle, I had no art experience and didn’t think of myself as an artsy or creative person. However, pushing through difficult projects challenged me to use my brain to come up with creative ideas and solutions to problems. I am grateful for the time I have had here at Freestyle and will bring the lessons I learned in perseverance and persistence with me moving forward.
