The documentary unit was focused on creating two fully-fledged documentaries, one in Film, and one in English and Digital Media. For each one, we did the research; collecting interviews, learning about the history of our subject, and taking photos or videos, to use for our project. The goal was to create polished pieces that could be published, which I believe I accurately accomplished through both of these projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the documentary process, we worked continuously on our narrative skills, trying to tell a story as best we can. Using this and new ideas incorporated into non-fiction writing, we were able to finalize a piece that turned into a magazine article, in English and Digital Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In film, we focused on developing skills from the narrative unit, creating a documentary film that told a story and thematically worked, having interviews, b-roll, and other elements of documentary filmmaking. During this unit, we made two projects; a mockumentary and a full documentary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mockumentary, is a fictitious documentary that we made, and in the documentary, we chose a real place to document and cover, going into great detail on how this place works or runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For our mockumentary, we started by brainstorming a subject on what to do it on, and then found a location to shoot it. For our story, we decided to focus on the \u201cmurder\u201d of our film teacher Mr. Taylor. We shot the film and edited it in one day, so we had little time to fix errors, such as many of the shots being out of focus, due to the darkness. The reason behind creating this, was to make sure we knew compositional techniques, such as the rule of thirds, and some lighting rules, to help create a cohesive work. We also practiced skills in audio, learning how to mic someone, and ways to capture good audio that helped our actual film to be more professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
