Explorations Website

The explorations unit asked us to make our work, soul search some, and create artwork  and websites with new techniques. For Design and English we combined our classes for two weeks, meditated, and shortly after wrote on a given prompt. From there, we would create artwork based on the prompt with a new art material each day. We did this a total of four times, meaning we had four freewrites. I stuck with a topic I created describing how the world is grey, it’s not so black and white. By that I mean as humans we see things as right or wrong, but are unaware of context.

For English, I took this idea and read Into the Wild, which follows Chris McCandless on his journal back story, to his slow death in Alaska. The writer, Jon Kraukauer, did an incredible job reporting the story, and while he liked and could relate to McCandless, he never said those that said otherwise were wrong. From that I created a piece mimicking his style and presented in front of the class. In design we took a piece of our artwork and edited it in some way or another. I learned how to generate 3D objects in photoshop and used a plethora of techniques to improve my piece. Lastly, I helped Steve on his music and we both created an after effect presentation on it.

Since this is my last website, It seems appropriate to reflect on my time here. At Freestyle, I did many things. For one, it built up my confidence hugely through it’s tightly knit community, the fact that I’ve met all of my closest friends here, and that when I look at my work, I think wow, I did that. I wouldn’t be same person if I never came here, and it’s only changed me for the better. I’d recommend anyone to go here.

Again, I read Into the Wild for English, which follows Chris McCandless on his journal back story, to his slow death in Alaska. The writer, Jon Kraukauer, did an incredible job reporting the story, and while he liked and could relate to McCandless, he never said those that said otherwise were wrong.

The theme of “The World’s Grey” was easily backed by my book, and allowed me to write my piece with relative ease.

For English we were asked to analyze two humorists, watch their humor, understand their style. In addition, we watched many youtube videos to be inspired, and after that, we were asked to make our own humor pieces. I paired with my friend Indigo, who wrote 90% of the script, and we performed it in front of the class. For design, I created a somewhat funny piece. In it I exaggerate the side-effects for eyebrow covers with things like “involuntary conversion to Judaism”.

For the mini project Steve and I wrote and created a song. Steve taught me how to use Pro-Tools again, and walked me through much of the process. He helped me with things such as mixing.
