Senior Zenith: 3d Modeling in Blender

After a couple of months of teaching myself Blender, a 3D modeling program, I created the piece above. For this project, a lot of my early time was spent learning how to navigate the 3D space inside Blender, as well as how to model. I then created a test scene so I could familiarize myself with the process of modeling a mini diorama from start to finish. The next steps were to sketch my final scene, then begin modeling. Once done with modeling, I did the texturing and lightning, then finally rendered out the image you see above.

To give the scene some character, I added a lot of small details like wooden crates and barrels. I also made the house into a blacksmith shop, placing an anvil and hammer outside. I also gave it a cartooney feel by adding subtle black outlines around the different objects I modeled.

This project helped me realize how much I’m capable of learning if I truly apply myself in a situation. I’m also very glad to have had the chance to learn an entirely new program on top of the plethora of knowledge I’ve gained from Freestyle over the past two years.

Senior Product Design: Coastline Coffee

To start this project, I first came up with a company called Coastline Coffee, which I imagined to be a modern coffee company. I then sketched out a logo, incorporating many modern elements. Then in Illustrator, I brought my logo to life. I also designed a label for a bag of coffee and placed my new logo on that. The label and logo were then placed on mockups, which was very satisfying to see.

This project helped me learn how to make specific design choices in order to stay in alignment with a certain aesthetic. Through the use of clean edges, curves, and gradients, I think I really stayed true to the modern aesthetic that I was initially aiming for.

Senior PSA: Just Roll With It

When I selected the saying “just roll with it” for my PSA, I knew I wanted to incorporate a metaphor in my design somehow. I eventually accomplished this through the bowling ball and pins, which signify just rolling with whatever may come your way.

The red coloring catches the viewer’s attention, then the playful effects on the “just roll with it” text helps the viewer to relax and adopt a more lighthearted mindset.

This project taught me how to make design choices in order to invoke a certain feeling in the viewer. I also really enjoyed giving the bowling ball and pins a greater meaning in the overall piece.

Below is a short video showcasing my favorite and best projects from the past two years.

Reflection

These projects have helped me grow immensely in my artistic abilities, and I’ve loved every second of it. I really enjoyed trying new things like 3D modeling, and experimenting with different styles in some of my other projects. I really love how all of these projects turned out, and I hope that I can continue building on my skills in the future.
