Dan Green

Welcome to my Profile Unit! The objective of this unit was to choose a important and interesting member of our community to profile. We accomplished this by writing a essay in English, making a magazine and portrait in Design, and making our website in Web/Audio.

I wrote my profile on Daniel Green; a world recording holding powerlifter. Writing our essay required us to get four different interviews, which we had to schedule on our own time. In addition to our interviews we had to schedule appointments to take candid pictures of our subject in action. After our essay was finished I moved onto design my magazine for Dan, to do this I used Adobe InDesign. We used our essay as the body of text and then we designed around the text with a unique color scheme fitting for our subject and in addition to that we implemented the photos we took. The color scheme we used in our article would move on to also be used in our presentations. For Web/Audio I completed my website which was based on Dan Green. I did so by utilizing the new web design techniques we were taught; JQuery and Javascript, which were both used to get my website looking spiffy. Finally, to synthesize all the information we gained and how this profile unit allowed to us to grow as a person we had to present what we learned to our Freestyle class and teachers by using google presentations.

The reason I choose to write my Profile on Dan Green is because he is someone who I greatly respect for all his accomplishments and contributions to powerlifting. Dan is a extremely humble and down to earth person which is notable considering that he holds and continues to break his own world records in powerlifting; a sport often associated with bigs egos and attitudes. In addition to this he owns a gym in Mountain View, California, called “Boss Barbell Club”. The goal of his gym is give powerlifters a home, a place where those who are serious about competing in powerlifting can train in a supportive and serious atmosphere. I also interviewed his wife, Sparkle Webber, and Dan’s best friend, Micheal Zundelevich, who got to see Dan as he became very successful in the sport.

These are a collection of photos I took during my trips to his gym, “Boss Barbell Club”. Mainly these were from one of his training sessions where he was front squatting to train for his meet in November where he competed in the 220lbs weight class. In this session he went up to front squat 600lbs for two reps. Although I took many pictures of this session, the handful below were the ones that came out the best.

Media

Media

For this profile unit we also had to create a "Media Feature" in After Effects. After Effects is an Adobe program that can be utilized in a number of ways. In this video you will see varying transitions, the most common of transitions I used were done by animating the opacity of the pictures and shapes to fade out the objects and then follow up that fade out by fading in more pictures. All these differing animations and pictures were compiled in this media feature to show who Dan Green is and what he is all about. Watch the video below!
