In the second semester of senior year, the big project for English was the Worldbuilding Unit. Throughout this unit, we worked together with group members to create and design a world and narrative to present as a pitch to the class. From my perspective, the goal of this unit was to provide experience in pitching a media idea to professionals such as Netflix executives. The project also helped strengthen my ability to work together as a team.<\/p>\n\n\n

Before the worldbuilding unit, I only really had story writing experience from the assignments in previous English classes at Mountain View High School (MVHS). The worldbuilding unit in Freestyle\u2019s English class allowed much more freedom and flexibility in what we would be able to write. Throughout the unit, I was able to better my reading and writing abilities through my teammates who often would find loopholes and issues with ideas that I put forth. With their feedback, I was able to think more deeply about what I write and fixing loopholes and discrepancies in my writing.

Growing up, games had always been something I enjoyed. Whether it was card games, a show about games or video games, it was always something I had an interest in. That paired with my hobby of drawing, led me to want to one day create a game of my own. Similarly to writing, I never knew where to start but thanks to my group members in the world building project, we were able to create a cohesive narrative in a video game world. It might not be a real playable video game, but getting to create all the story lines and characters was enjoyable.
