Overview

During the second Narrative Unit, we created book jackets, animations, and surreal art. Our first goal in English was to create a story that followed a narrative arc and write it in the form of a short story. We then designed a book jacket for our short story as if we would sell it in a bookstore. Our goal in Web/Audio was to create an animation that promoted the book. I worked with Max on this portion and we had a lot of fun doing so. You can see the video on the left. We combined both of our stories and wanted to make the trailer as funny as possible.

Book Jacket

The book jacket that I made for design features the short story that I had written in English. I used Adobe InDesign to design this book jacket and created the theme myself. I based the theme off of the design of the Gulf Oil Racing colors because that was the first color scheme that came to mind when I thought about speed. The Porsche on the front cover was made in Adobe Illustrator and then exported as a PNG file and placed in the Indesign file. Below, you will see the Indesign layout.

This is the layout that I saw in InDesign while I was making this book jacket. I used the various tools the InDesign provided to create the diffeent elements you see in the book jacket.

Surreal Art
Surrealism Picture

This is the surreal art that I made in design. In order to come up with the concept for this art, we were all required to document the dreams from three nights in our notebooks and bring them to class in order to talk about them. We discussed ideas for our art in groups and came up with a concept which we then went and collected photos for. We used HDR (high dynamic range) photography and combined it with other images to make a surreal image.

Reflection

This is my Adobe Dreamweaver workspace. During this unit, I learned how to use responsive web design in order to make a mobile adaptation of my website. You can explore these by opening this link on a mobile phone or a tablet.

During this project, I learn a lot in design. I learned how to combine photos in Adobe Photoshop in order to create HDR photos. I also learned how to apply filters and warp objects to create shadows in order to make my photo as realistic as possible. My favorite part of this assingment was finding places to take HDR photos and combining them to look at the final product. The current background of my surreal image is a picture I took of my street.
