About Me

My name is Kathryn McClellan, and I’m a senior at Freestyle Academy. I’m taking English, Design, and Digital Media at Freestyle, and have produced several large projects here. The purpose of this website is to showcase two of those projects that I’m most proud of and that show how I’ve grown here at Freestyle.

Narrative Book Jacket

Early in the school year, we had a project that centered around a short narrative we wrote in English. The Design aspect of this project was a book jacket, imagining that our short story was a book written by ourselves 10 years or so in the future. One of the reasons I’m so proud of this project is because I stepped out of my comfort zone and drew the entire cover by hand in Photoshop. It took a long time and was very difficult, but also very rewarding, and the project ended up looking amazing.

Zenith Digital Painting

The second project that I’m very proud of is the digital painting I created during the zenith project, which ended recently. I had challenged myself to create five pieces of art with five different visual mediums to try and step out of my comfort zone. For the most part, the pieces turned out a little better than I expected, but very clearly the work of a beginner. Understandable, given my lack of experience. However, the digital painting, I ended up spending much more time working on, and as a result, it turned out much better than I could have ever expected. I spent almost a month working solely on this piece, and you can tell. It is by far the project I’m most proud of from this year, and one of my favorites from my two years at Freestyle.
