Reflections

In our reflections unit, we did a lot of projects that focused on creative expression through facets of our personality in the way that we viewed ourselves and who we are. We did this through a variety of art forms and learned how to use new programs. Because this was my first year at freestyle, I had a lot to catch up on, especially for using Adobe programs like Illustrator and Photoshop. I also had to learn lots of new things for 3D animation, such as using Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.

Although the technology aspect was challenging at times, I feel as though I got to learn more about myself and reflects parts of my personality and values in what I created this semester.

Essence Objects

Table Rendering in Substance Painter for Animation

In English class, at the beginning of the year we were tasked with creating a list of essence objects which we felt defined our personality. The list that I came up with was the following:

  • a paper crane
  • my paint stained scrunchie
  • my sketchbook
  • the book crooked kingdom
  • a red rose
  • a pride flag
  • sting cheese
  • my dragon necklace
  • liquid eyeliner
  • a ukulele
  • the Minecraft soundtrack
  • a cup of boba
  • my favorite socks (they have goats on them)

Most of these items were just things I had readily in front of me at that very moment while writing in my notebook. Some of these things may appear in my art, although most of them don’t.
