Narrative at Freestyle Academy is based on social and civic responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first project I completed during the narrative unit was lyrical essay based on racial profiling of my hispanic friend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the lyrical essay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZAZ
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It had been a good day for you. Your dad got a raise, and the family sends you to the grocery store to buy salsa for tonight’s party, or \u201cfiesta,\u201d as your family calls it.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salsa and tortilla chips are the life of your family, enjoyed on every special occasion.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as soon as you walk into the store it soon becomes the same ritual.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see it.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their eyes following you
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They see you.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The browns, blues, and greens dart away to avoid contact with your eye.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In any effort, your attempt to avoid interaction will ultimately betray you.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man well dressed is shopping for chips in the same aisle, but who is he to you?
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You take a glass jar of salsa, and place it into your hoodie pocket, walking to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


As you dart away from his eyes, he stops.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You keep walking, you don’t care about who he is.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you feel his hand on your shoulder, the time stops.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything is frozen, as you manage to twist your body the other way to look at him.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you trying to steal this? All of you illegals comin\u2026.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steal? Illegals?
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite maintaining a 3.7 GPA in high school, your English skills have never been strong since moving from your hometown.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your voice breaks:\u201c No sir, I wa\u2026.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you attempt to show the scrunched up 5$ bill that your father handed to you, an employee enters the aisle.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man who grabbed you yells at the worker \u201cthis illegal was going to steal some Mexican sauce, but I caught him before he could run away.\u201d
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steal? Illegal?
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The employee’s attempt to calm the other man wasn’t working.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lets go of you for a second to show where you \u201cstole\u201d the \u201cMexican sauce\u201d from.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Run
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You run.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Run to the checkout.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind you, the other men watch as you pay for your \u201cMexican sauce\u201d, and walk out of the store.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that night, your family all enjoy your salsa and tortilla chips.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first Project in design was a dypthic piece featuring a old man I found sitting at the embarcadero in San Francisco. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I took a picture of him and then threw that photo into photoshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I then masked him out, added a black background and followed it with a section of my lyrical essay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second project I was a Japanese stab binding book created based on this essay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are 4 different types of pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There pages are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newspaper with calligraphic drawings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear paper with parts of my lyrical essay<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear paper with calligraphic kanji<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And photos of flowers in watercolor form<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every piece works together to make a final product <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last project from this time was my Mini Movie poster package<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I created my movie poster with the theme being action based. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has bright red as the main color, contrasting with a pure black silhouette of a adult, with a graphic gun underlining the main text of the movie <\/p>\n\n\n\n
