Welcome to the Project Listing Page, your portal Kevin Chan's work at Freestyle Academy. Each of the eight projects takes several months to complete, and is a comprised of work from multiple classes. Click on each project to learn more about it.
Project 1
The Self Portrait website revolves around the central question: “Who am I?” Included is information about my friends and family, artwork from Design, and an essay from English.
Project 2
The Narrative website will bring you into the world of Merc, his mother Faith, and his friend Rahul. Everything is based off of a graphic novel written in English, which acts as a storyline for for the animation, and the basis for the artistic style throughout. Unlike the Self Portrait unit, the Narrative unit has a much more unified theme reflected across the website, animation, and artwork.
Project 3
The Documentary unit is by far the most difficult project of Junior year. It requires numerous interviews, extensive research, and lots of photographs. I based my documentary off of the Living Classroom program, a non-profit organization which provides garden based lessons to students in elementary and middle schools in the area. I created a themed website which reflects the concept of garden based education. Included is a ten-page research paper, thirty-page book, and a narrated slideshow.
Project 4
The Experimental unit is based off of my studies of the Beat movement in English class. After writing an unconventional poem, I created an animation in the style of a musical lyric video to convey what my thoughts were in the writing. In design, I was challenged to create a photograph, illustration, model, etc.. to demonstrate my central idea of “confusion and frustration due to the passage of time.” I designed the website to be as dreamy and surreal as possible to reflect the unorthodox nature of the artwork.
Project 5:
The Profile Unit was a challenge similar to the Documentary Unit. It required interviews, essays, and InDesign. The final products were a magazine, portrait photo, essay, website, media feature, and presentation. I wrote my profile about Setare Fathi, and why she is a unique member of our community.
Project 6:
The Music Video was a collaboration between film and web students. In our group of three, we created the Blue Moon Wolves music video. Individually we created album covers and concert posters based off a genre of our choosing.
Project 7:
Narrative 2 is based off of Inert, a short story I wrote in English class. Using that story, I created a book jacket using InDesign and Illustrator in Design class, and an animation in Web/Audio.
Project 8:
The Explorations unit was our last at Freestyle, and includes our Humor and Blink projects, as well as a Mini-Project in Web. My Humor project included my Freestyle Daily newspaper and Mox News broadcast. The Blink unit includes an 'Amplified' art piece which is based off of an acrylic painting. Finally, for my Mini-Project I put together a unique photogallery documenting my trip to Japan over Spring Break.
