Explorations

Introduction

” How can you find, explore, and expand your passion? ”

For this Explorations unit, we were given the freedom to discover and improve any skill that our hearts desired within the 21st Century Skills.

I especially focused on Risk Taking, the willingness to make mistakes while overcoming challenging problems for one’s personal growth, and Self-Direction, the ability to set goals related to learning by independently planning, managing effort, and assessing the quality of learning. For this Explorations Project, I decided to challenge myself by learning to draw perspective drawings for the first time!

Inspirations

Before even starting this project, I found inspiration from the majority of these three animators, artists, and YouTubers. It was humongous help from all these people because they sprouted my interest in perspective drawing, taught me the basics, and let me set goals for my future project with perspective drawings!

The Process

Since I knew nothing about perspective drawing other than how amazing it could add depth to drawing itself, I watched multiple video tutorials on Youtube to learn the basics of perspective drawing. Turns out, that perspective drawing is fairly easy to grasp once you well understand the basics. However, this didn’t mean the whole idea of perspective drawing was easy.

There are about five types of point perspectives but it’s mainly the following three types of point perspectives:

In order to start my journey of perspective drawing for the first time, I decided to work backward on the basics that I learned. Breaking down the images to find the vanishing points and the horizon line of reference images was a great strategy to get more familiar with and understand the structure. This is exactly what I did with the image below!

Final Sketches

Here are the three sketches I was able to create, the first two are one-point perspectives and the last one is a two-point perspective.

Reflection

Learning how perspective drawings work was able to expand my knowledge and I can’t wait to practice more to improve and use them on my future animations for more depth.

Listen to my Experimental Music Production

For this Experimental Music Production, I collaborated with two close friends at Freestyle Academy. Since we were a group of three, we decided to add vocals to our production to add more personality. The inspiration for this creation was from rock or metal bands, to which we named ourselves the “Sock Rockers”. What I’m most proud of this is that I was able to play around with different instruments alongside my friends and even though it may not sound the best, I had tons of fun!
