Introduction
In English, we crafted concepts for narratives that were meant to offer a perspective and enter a real-world conversation. In the unit, we first read the book Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, analyzing the techniques the author used to establish the world in her narrative. Then, we came up with concepts ourselves, determining themes and details about our worlds. To become more accurate in our stories, we wrote research papers on related topics and went back to incorporate that knowledge.
Reflection
Throughout this unit I learned a lot about storywriting and collaboration. Writing complex stories is both easier and harder with other people: team members offer unique perspectives that catch flaws in the story, but it’s easy to get stuck finding solutions to plot holes. To me, writing is a very grueling intellectual process, and I’m glad I was able to get into a creative flow state with my team members.
