What you’re looking at is the third attempt at taking this shot, which was a result of a weight problem I had in my photos. I had just bought this really cool industrial\/academia style light bulb for my room and I wanted to take a photo using it. During the first attempt I had created this scene with a book in the center, plants surrounding it, and the light bulb on the side lighting up the scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, there is a huge weight problem. Because it’s shot from the side, the weight of all the plants and light is fit into the top of the frame, which I think looses the emphasis on the book. So I repositioned the camera to be above my desk instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So now the framing of this is a little better. Although the only problem now is its too heavy on the right side. I wanted to half the light bulb illuminate the branch in front, but I think its better to fill the void on the left side to keep the photo balanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here’s the final raw photo I took. The light bulb on the right side with the plant on the left creates the framed image that I wanted to depict. If I were to redo this photo, I would have aded more to the bottom left and top right. I added a watch and small plants, but you can barely tell they’re there. Luckily since its on opposite sides it doesn’t create a weight unbalance, but there was an opportunity to create a more full and lush feel with the image by filling those gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
