The Origins

I suppose it all started after I was staying up too late watching clips of Saturday Night Live. I kept thinking to myself “sketch comedy is fun but I don’t think it’s for podcasts”. Then I stopped myself thinking “wait a second, who says sketch comedy isn’t for podcasts?”. when I couldn’t come up with a good answer I decided that I would try making my own sketch comedy podcast. The humor analysis I did in English helped me synthesize my ideas as to what sort of elements I wanted to include and the specific humor techniques I wanted to use as well as specific humorists I wanted to study. I chose both Kate McKinnon for her well-known sketch comedy work on Saturday Night Live and John Oliver for his blue and black humor on HBO’s Last Week Tonight. I really wanted to go in with the black and blue humor even though my script went in another direction. It ended up becoming a sketch comedy sort of repartee with some caricature and banter elements thrown in.
