Deadly Sins
My intent was to create an image that captures the insidious human emotion of greed and how it is amplified by an individual’s environment.
To represent how greed infects the mind, I wanted to create a human head side profile silhouette. Greed would be portrayed as a green mirage overtaking the dark red silhouette. To create this effect, I used a large stuffed animal with pink colors to act as my original subject, then I turned the lights down very low, and set my camera to a low exposure and low shutter speed, and dragged my camera towards the right. I knew the pink would be underexposed and turn out dark red, and the light blue background would turn green in film development. I exposed the edges of the raw film to light to create a burn out effect.
I thoroughly enjoyed using my knowledge from previous film experiments and conveying how an individual’s conscious mind is being taken advantage of by the greedy society in an abstract way.
