Our first photo blog of the year, culture. I took a photo of 红包, Bao lì xì, or red envelope. Although gifting money may seem strange and uncomfortable in western cultures, it is a very significant aspect of Chinese and Vietnamese culture. Relatives will give the younger ones of the family red envelopes in return for a new year blessing, traditionally, the money in the red envelopes is allowance for the entire year.
