Showcase Introduction

Hi all! My name is Lleyton Brouwer and I am a Design student at Freestyle Academy. Over the last two years at Freestyle, I have been able to further my passion for photography, digital art, music, and more. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis and other sports both competitively and recreationally.

In my senior showcase, I am excited to present my Senior Zenith project, my Digital Pastel Painting, and an independent photography series I did in New York City, as these projects represent what I am most passionate about and best reflect the growth of my work during my time at Freestyle. For my Senior Zenith project, I did a photograph portrait series emphasizing storytelling through facial features, hands, and environments. My NYC series is mainly based on urban/street photography, with some architectural shots and cityscapes, as well as portraits and scenes of the city. My digital pastel painting is of one of the photos in this same series, using Photoshop pastel brushes to turn it into a different type of artwork.

I would like to get your feedback on what you thought about the photos themselves. Are they boring? I feel that it is sometimes difficult to make photos interesting without impressive subject matter. How can I improve continuity in my series? If I were to go do this series again, how could I make it more like a series rather than a compilation of random photos in the same city?

Next year, I plan to attend Boston University. I am not sure what I am going to major in yet, but right now I want to go into architecture. I am excited about college because of the new opportunities and experience there is to gain.
