Intro

To conclude our year in English, we were asked to create an original humor piece. This could’ve been in any format such as a comic strip, video skit, comedic standup, and more. Throughout the unit we read The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut in an effort to draw inspiration for our personal projects.

Influences

Throughout the process of our project, we took influences from our favorite humorists to help inspire us. The main two influences for my humor project were Ryan Higa and Kevin Hart. Kevin Hart is a very well-known comedian who was initially popular for his stand-up performances, but is now very prominent in the movie industry. Ryan Higa is a Youtuber who is best known for his comedic skits that often are satirical.

My Skit

For my humor project, I teamed up with Stephen Hu to create a skit video somewhat similar to Ryan Higa’s video. Our skit was titled “How to Not Get Cancelled in 2021,” which poked fun at Gen Z and their tendency to “cancel” people. We used lots of caricature and exaggeration in our skit. We also used fast and witty edits to add to the humor. You can watch our final skit down below.
