Reflections

Intro

The reflections unit is all about the question, “Who Am I?”. In Digital Media we made our own personalized mandalas, in English we wrote a college essay depicted the story/stories from our life, and in Film we made a college essay video. I enjoyed the making of mandalas as it was my first time ever doing so, I enjoyed writing the English piece however it was a much more vulnerable piece than I’m used to as it was about my struggle with severe anxiety from ages 11-15 before I went to therapy. Making my reflections Film was a very educational process, as I am a new Film student and it was my first time filming a video, and although I’m not entirely happy with the end result I am proud of the idea I came up with.

In English we were instructed to make an essence objects list, the objective being that we can show who we are by writing about our most beloved 20 objects.

Personal Museum Curation

The Museum of Starving Artists Trying to Survive:

Erin Sheriff, Fig. 2017

I have included this piece in my museum not just because it is pleasing to the eye and has good composition, but because of it’s relatable nature. Most people have experienced times where they’ve felt not completely whole in themselves, as if a piece was missing. I find this comforting and that it reflects how I have felt during hard times.

Cristina de Middel, Umeko. 2012.

I included this piece because I think it reflects the impulsive adventurer in me. The astronaut’s helmet is foggy and cloudy, but they still choose to explore.

Why my Photographs are Bad, Charles M. Taylor, Jr. 1902.

I find this piece to be humorous, but also it’s contrarian point of view is semi-reflective of me.

Clear Day, Agnes Martin.

I would not include this piece in my curation because it’s painfully dull. And I could not see anyone relating to or getting anything out of this piece.

Agnes Martin. Sea. 1962

I would not include this piece for similar reasons that I did not include the previous piece, it is literally blue squares. Who is gonna feel emotions from blue squares?! I’m not trying to judge, but what is going on with these artists, man.

Reflection: I think the pieces that I chose to include stand out, which I try to do with my own work. They are captivating and pull you in at first glance, making you feed your curiosity about them.

Mandala Section

In Digital Media we made two mandalas using Illustrator, one was b&w and the other was colored. Our b&w mandala was laser printed on a material of our choice, mine being the rose gold metal.

Reflections Video

This was my first ever Film assignment, I had a ton of freak outs during the process but it taught me A LOT. The assignment was to create a college essay-esque video that talks about who we are/what we’ve been through. Overall I’m proud of the concept I was going for, even if the end result isn’t the best.

Perspective Video

For Digital media we were instructed to talk about something to share our perspective on using Adobe After Effects, I chose to do my video on Lizzo–a popular pop/hip-hop star and talk about why she is important in today’s world. It was my first time editing a video in Adobe After Effects and it was fun to mess around with images and use them to aid the vocals.
