Welcome to Maxwell James Evans' project page, where you can view all the websites I have created over the two years I spent at Freestyle Academy. There are a total of eight websites, four of which I created during Junior year and four of which I created during my Senior year. The project page you see before you was created for the purpose of showing off those websites I spent many hours working on. The style of the page is that of black and white, with hints of coloring thrown around to draw the eye. This was done because I tried to make the website relaxing and leisurely, which can describe parts of my more relaxed personality. I was originally going for a fancy, slightly pretentious look, but I felt that the project page that described me should be slightly more cartoony while still looking alright, which explains the buttons. It's important to note that the first four websites listed were made during Junior year, which is when I was learning many new skills and could not yet fully put them into practice. The websites made during Senior year better reflect the skills I now gained.

I hope you enjoy browsing the fruits of my labor, at your leisure.

Self-Portrait Project
This is the first website I ever created during my time at Freestyle Academy. I began the process of learning many tools that would help me create much better projects in the future. That's not to say this project is bad, per se, but looking back now I can definitely say I improved as a web developer. Some of, but not limited to, the tools I began to learn where Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Garage Band. The theme of this website is 'Self-Portrait', so we were asked to create a website that reflected our personalites. I created a Mario themed one, because I spend a large portion of my time playing video games, and I felt it was a good enough portion of my life to dedicate my first Freestyle website towards.

Narrative Project

The second website I created for Freestyle Academy was the first Narrative unit. The idea behind this website is that Freestyle Academy teaches its students how to tell a story. Not only were we required to write a simple story, we also had to create stories without using words, as well as stories that would later be animated. Some of the tools I used during the creation of this website were Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Illustrator, as well as beginning to learn such tools as ProTools and Adobe Flash. This unit, we began to learn the basics of creating music and audio as well, which we would use as background music and noise for our animation. While an improvement to my previous website, there is still quite the difference between this site and those that I created a year later.

Documentary Project

After spending two units creating content about ourselves, the third unit known as the Documentary unit, would be focused on a different person. The goal of this project was to find and tell an untold story, one that was focused on a certain location with people surrounding it. For my place, I chose the personal trainer's gym known as FiT, and interviewed three different people who's lives involved FiT in some way. I also focused on the topic that not enough people know the importance of excercise and have a proper diet. I learned a lot about making making books and telling a story, as the design focus of this project was creating thirty page book about the location, filled with quotes and pictures. Some of the programs I used during this time was Dreamweaver, InDesign, and Photoshop. I also learned a lot about how to use a camera, and to take pictures that follow art rules.

Experimental Project

The Experimental project was one of the stranger units, as the Freestyle students were given a random topic and were asked to create art based around it. My theme was "anger while driving", which hit rather close to home. I based my website around my anger when I am driving behind bikers, and they are slow enough to make me want to pass them but fast enough that I can't do so safely. This unit, I created my second animation which was based off a poem I wrote in English, which is just a simple haiku. I also created a large art piece in my design class based off the topic. Everything, from the website to the individual poems I create, are based off the idea of "anger while driving". I'm quite happy with this website, and I think it was the best I made during Junior year. That's not to say it's amazing, but I was quite happy with it as my final site for the first year at Freestyle Academy.
