For the first ever photo blog assignment, I took a picture of these paintbrushes. The prompt or the week was to take a “self portrait” without actually showing our face. You might be wondering how some paintbrushes and paint on a palette has to do with me. The easy answer to that would be that i like art. However, that is not the case. Although I do love art, the reason I used paint and paintbrushes is to showcase different colors, which represents the different sides of me. Although the paintbrushes in the photo are their own entity, they aren’t as cool just by themselves. But with the paint combined, they can be used to create many different pieces of art. Just like the paintbrush, although I am my own person, I am able to become more expressive with the addition of art. I am someone that doesn’t really like to be direct about my feelings through words, and I am not the best at communicating honestly. Instead I use art as a way of self expression. With art, I feel that I can express how I feel in a more organize but free way. In this way, I think that the paintbrush and me are very similar. When I took this photo, I wanted to emphasize the colors on the palette, without taking away focus from the paintbrush. To do this, I changed the aperture to make the camera focus on the paintbrush. Despite the colors being noticeable in the foreground, the focus is still put on the paintbrush.
