Welcome to my website! My name is Meri and I take Design, Digital Media, and English here at Freestyle Academy. I will be attending the Rhode Island School of Design starting in the Fall of 2022.

I first heard about Freestyle at Los Altos High School during my freshman year and I knew that this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I have always been interested in art since I can remember and I grew up taking classes at CSMA as well as school art classes. I mainly have exposed myself to traditional art mediums but I am so excited to learn digital art applications here at Freestyle. I hope to go to college for something art-related but I have still yet to decide exactly what I want to do!

In my free time, I love listening to music, drawing, reading, watching movies, and spending time with my friends, and I love anything to do with nature. My current favorite mediums are collage, colored pencil, and gouache. I especially love anything 80’s and my favorite movie of all time is Back to the Future (hence the quote under my name from the third movie). I also love music throughout several different decades. Some of my favorite bands and artists include Japanese Breakfast, The Shins, Beabadobee, Lord Huron, Phoebe Bridgers, and many more. Over quarantine, I taught myself how to embroider and recently started making jewelry too.

I am also the President, one of the co-founders, and the Senior Art Director for Savvy Zine! I came up with the idea to start a magazine that is a safe space for the creative students in the Bay Area. I recruited two of my most driven and artistic friends and our first issue, Growth, is published as of June 2021! You can receive updates and/or submit your work through our Instagram @savvyzine or our website, savvyzine.wordpress.com!

Outside of school, before the global pandemic, I have been on the LAHS cheer team since freshman year and on the LAHS competitive cheer team during my freshman year. Before that I also did competitive dance for two years. I also work at Nature Gallery where I do product photography, website management, and many other projects!

Junior Year Reflection: This year has been both overwhelming and fun. Being in distance learning has brought an obstacle to all of us we never expected but I feel as though I managed to be a successful student in my classes. I am grateful for the friendships I have made and the relationships with my teachers. This has by far been an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait for next year!
