Introduction

This project invited us to explore a new form of communication and media: the podcast. As an Honors English student, I researched a specific topic and shared that research with my listeners. I was inspired to make my podcast about what kids think about success because success is something that many people think differently about, and I thought it would be extremely interesting and entertaining to hear what kids had to say about the topic.

About This Podcast

All people have their own views on what “success” looks like, and the definition can differ from one person to the next. Depending on a person’s background, including where they live as well as their culture, age, and experiences, their view of success may differ significantly. One group that is often unrepresented in this conversation is elementary school students. What do they think about what it means to have success? What advice do they have for becoming successful in life? This podcast will cover these topics and more, with direct responses from the kids themselves!

About The Host

Mezi Iroaga attends Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy, where she greatly enjoys dance, filmmaking, creating art, and building knowledge in core subjects. Mezi is involved with the Ambassadors club on campus, as well as the board for both the Spartan Dance Club and the Dance Program at school. Because of these leadership roles on campus, she has thought deeply at what it means to succeed and be successful in all areas of life. This prompted her to unveil others’ views on what it means to be successful. Because Mezi has experience in babysitting as well as a strong relationship with her younger sister, she is driven to hear what elementary school students think about success.

My Podcast: “Young Success”

Reflection

From engaging in this podcast assignment, I have grown to value the process of creating this type of media in which I haven’t been called to create in the past. I really enjoyed the interviews with the kids, and being able to hear their responses to my questions. In addition, it was super cool to be able to voice my words and perform them rather than just writing an essay. I also learned how to use my audio recorder and how to use Adobe Audition.
