Annotated Bibliography<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the Narrative Perspectives unit in English, we researched a specific topic related to our worldbuilding idea, and wrote an annotated bibliography collecting information on that topic that we then presented at the end of the first semester. Since my group’s worldbuilding idea was about a cult where people undergo cosmetic surgery to turn themselves into animals, I researched and presented on plastic surgery addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surreal Composition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The surreal composition was a project where, using the Photoshop skills we learned in Digital Media, students made an image composed of four images. I used the two sideways branches on this path to make it look like it created a portal into another dimension, which is the gateway into the cult from my worldbuilding project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artist Statement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Using Adobe Photoshop, I made a surreal image. I used techniques like creating a clipping mask, layering photos and controlling opacity, using the brush tool to fade out edges of overlapping images, and applying texture by overlaying an image and changing transparency. In English, my group created a world where people turn themselves into animals. In the story, they escape away from the rest of society, which is why the background of my image is a forest. The two tree branches are like a \u201cportal\u201d or a doorway. This represents how the characters enter a \u201cnew world,\u201d the cult that they join. The deer in the right bottom corner is one of the people who turned into an animal. The bathroom stall behind the branches represents the \u201ccivilization\u201d that they are running away from. My surreal piece symbolizes the animal characters\u2019 escape from regular society to a free world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My research topic was cosmetic surgery addiction. In the photo, the person depicted has undergone so many surgeries that they have transformed themselves fully into a deer. This is in a futuristic setting, where technology has evolved enough to allow for such a transformation. One conflict that came up in my research was the ethics of such drastic surgery. The dangers and health complications of surgery like that would pose health complications. What surgeon would be willing to perform that operation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I appreciate the technical photoshop skills this project has taught me. I now feel very comfortable using photoshop. I have discovered that this is an incredible tool to express creativity and be imaginative. Until now, I hadn\u2019t understood Photoshop’s ability to make absurd or fantastical images come to life. I hope that in the future I can continue to use photoshop to satisfy my creativity and make art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worldbuilding Pitch Video<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the worldbuilding unit, we gave a final presentation of the story of our project and our world to the class. My teammates and I made a presentation where we introduced the characters, the rules of our world, the motivations of the cult, and the hierarchy within the cult. We called our production team Sideways Umbrella Productions, and we presented our idea as if we were pitching it as a movie to Netflix executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
