intro
photo of me

My name is Natalie Rockhold and I am a student at Freestyle Academy of Communication Arts and Technology. This is my website index, or the main website that will direct you to every other website I have made during my time in this program. My three classes of English, Design, and Digital Media all worked together to help me create the projects presented by these websites.

My time at Freestyle is separated into different units, each about a month long. We learn how to use new applications and create a website summarizing all that we learned during the month. Each section of this website links you to a distinct unit of Freestyle in which I explored a different creative approach. This program has helped me so much in exploring my interest in digital media and graphic design. Hopefully the evolution of the webpages on this site show my growth and maturation as a student. The conceptual unit was my first unit at Freestyle (August 2016). The focus question of this unit was "How can I use unconventional forms to express myself?" I created a digital photograph, experimental music, and poetry. The works are a bit rough, looking back on them, but I learned a lot about the Adobe Applications in my first few months. The narrative unit focused on the question of "How well can you visually tell a structured story?" I wrote a story, which I then made into a graphic novel and eventually an animation. This unit was challenging and tedious, but I was excited to show off my drawing skills. I'm extremely proud of my final product. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

This unit explored the question "How do you creatively and truthfully portray a significant person, group, place, idea, or issue in the community?" I created a full documentary book and video highlighting a local farm. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

explorations

Our final project of junior year had us answer the prompt, "How can you find, explore, and/or expand your passion?" I chose to focus on digital art in Photoshop, researching color and mood. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

reflections

Reflections was the first project of senior year. We went deeper into the applications we knew from last year and created a project that showed another person's perspective through writing and a photograph. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

narrative two

The narrative two unit is a continuation of the narrative one unit from junior year, but we were allowed to expand our story with dialogue and use our new skills to create higher-quality narrative productions. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

zenith

The zenith project is the ultimate project we complete at Freestyle. It is completely open ended and allows us to follow a passion of our choice and create something great. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

showcase

At the end of our senior year, Freestyle provided a panel of experts from the field, who came to review our work. We chose two projects we were most proud of from our time at Freestyle to show them. Hopefully it is an accurate summary of my work over the past two years and reflects my love for digital media and design. For Freestyle's page about the project prompt, click here

old index

Before I had many of the Javascript skills that I possess today, there was an alternate version of this website. Although it no longer represents my abilities, it has a special place in my heart as the first website I ever created. I actually ended up preserving some of the images and design choices that I made.
