Conceptual

The conceptual project represents what I have learned and been able to create since I came to freestyle not too long ago. In the little time at freestyle, I have learned how to make use of many different software and devices to display my creativity. I have learned how to use DSLR Cameras, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, and WordPress to present my creativity. I used my DSLR camera and my audio recorder to create my first experimental film and used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit. I used pro tools, adobe Photoshop, and my Tascam Audio recorder to create my poem mix and creatively show my conceptual poem. I have used these applications and equipment to display my creative risks and personal opinions.

In the conceptual unit I valued making my first film, for me, it was cool to be able to make a real film in that short amount of time and learn how to use my tripod and camera effectively to create my experimental film. I enjoyed editing my film and being able to make my own artistic choices. I valued learning about the experimental filmmaking process and It was cool to see professional experimental films. In English, I valued making my poem and having freedom when making my free verse and photo haiku. In digital media, I valued learning how to use all the new software. I valued learning pro tools and Adobe Photoshop to make my poem mix and cover and being able to make my own creative decisions to display the poem as I want.

Poetry

Yearly Haven

For the conceptual unit, I made multiple poems such as my free verse, haiku, and ekphrastic poem. For my project poem, I used my free verse and I used my digital media skills to produce a cover and a poem mix. I valued the production process of the poem. I had a lot of fun putting in the sound effects and music to match my photo. For example, I would take time to find the perfect sounds to go in my poem like when I mentioned casting my fly into the river I played an effect of a raindrop and that worked out well. I also valued using photoshop to create my poem photo because I had lots of ideas of what I could do and since this was a location I go to I could display a picture of the 4ur ranch I go to that I mention throughout my poem.

I valued using pro tools to produce my poem and I valued all the creativity I could use to produce my poem. For example, I found it fun finding all the different little sound effects and matching them up in the perfect part of the poem like when I describe hummingbird’s songs and I play a sound of birds speaking. I also like the different options I had when choosing the music I wanted because I wanted an acoustic and folk music theme and I got that by searching through songs online. I valued the time and effects I used when recording my poem mix.

Photo Haiku

In my english class, we had to create our own haiku formed from our concept statements that we were given. My concept statement was I am feeling resentment through the quick passage of time. I wanted to relate my concept statement to that of hanging by a campfire with your friends and that feeling of joy on a summer night. In digital media, we were displaying our haikus visually through premiere pro and creating a video using timestamps to effectively move the text with the music I chose.

Haiku video

Premiere pro interface

I valued learning how to use timestamps in my video. I had lots of trouble when using timestamps and once I learned how to do it I was excited to use it for my video haiku. I valued the editing I did because my words really followed the music. For my photo haiku, I also was learning how to fool around with different shutter speeds and I wanted to take a photo of fire since you can use a lot of different shutter speeds to give off a cool effect. I valued the photo I took because I took a lot of time and effort to create the perfect fire for the photo. I also valued learning a new form of poetry. I never knew what the rules were for a haiku and It was enjoyable creating my first one.

Elements and Principles of Art

For one of our first digital media assignments, we researched all the different elements and principles of art. I learned a lot about how the different styles of art are displayed through history, painting, and photography. I learned a lot about the different elements and principles that I could use to make my art better.

Experimental Film

For the conceptual unit in film class, we made our first film an experimental film. We analyzed many different experimental films and used some techniques to make our own. In my experimental film, I used my concept statement to craft a pitch for my film. My concept statement is feeling resentment through the experience of a quick passage of time. I thought of old items that have been used and feel resent for the quick time they were being used. I thought of my grandma’s old piano book that looks very ragged and used but not it is not used anymore. I wanted to show the music book feeling resentment for the quick passage of time it was being used.

Premiere pro interface

I used many different close-ups of the book and the piano being played and not being played in order to connotate the feeling of resentment. I did many different close-ups of different instruments such as my bass and electric guitar to contrast the difference between the old and new instruments. In adobe premiere pro I edited my first film by putting many clips of different instruments while the piano is being played to give off the quick passage of time. I also matched the audio I recorded of my grandma playing the piano with many of my small cuts. I choose to end and start with the piano book since that is the main part of my experimental.

Experimental film

I valued the time and knowledge I put in when creating my experimental. In film, we had to learn a lot of new information very quickly and use it to effectively create an experimental film. I valued the time I put in when editing because I put in a lot of time to put all the tiny clips and music together to create the best film I could create. I valued learning how to use my camera when filming. I never really used a camera before and I learned how to get the right settings for what I needed.
