Introduction
This project encourages students to share their opinions through creative arts and a strong personal style. By working with poetry, music, art, animation, experimental film, and web production, students take creative risks while exploring the question, “How can I use unconventional forms to express myself?” Along the way, students build technical communication skills by using professional equipment and digital tools, such as cameras, audio recorders, and creative software, to turn their ideas into expressive projects.
During my first project at Freestyle in the Conceptual Unit for English and Digital Media, I learned that there are many different ways to express ideas. English felt very different from my past English classes, and it felt like a space where I wasn’t judged as much, which made it easier to share my thoughts. I also really enjoyed reading The Metamorphosis because it encouraged deeper thinking and discussion. In Digital Media, I liked learning how to use many different applications and tools. One of my favorite projects was the music recording project, since it allowed me to be creative while building new skills. Overall, this first project helped me feel more comfortable expressing myself, and the supportive environment made the experience even better.

-What was your process in producing the Parody Song? What was your process in producing the Parody Song?
I love My Little Pony and I love sleep, so I created a parody of its theme song called My Beautiful Bed. My version turns the original song’s theme of friendship into a lighthearted celebration of rest after a long day. I rewrote the lyrics to match the melody, then recorded and edited the audio in Adobe Audition using my Scarlett Solo and adjusting the volume to make it sound polished and cozy. I enjoyed discovering how much control I had over the sound and seeing my lyrics fit smoothly with the original song. I’m most proud of how the final mix turned out because it shows the creativity and the fun in making this song about a thing that I often do, which is sleep.
Parody Lyrics
My beautiful bed, my beautiful bed
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
[My beautiful bed]
I used to wonder when my rest would beee
[My beautiful bed]
Until I had time to go and sleep
Cozy slumber
Pillow soft
A beautiful time
To be as snug
Being sleepy
Comes so easy
And sleep makes all my nights complete
You are my sweetest rest
Do you know you make my dreams the best?

Photoshop Blend Mode Editing
DSLR Practice Photos
The DSLR practice sessions taught us how to use our cameras and experiment with different settings to make our photos more creative. We learned how to use Av mode to create shallow and deep depth of field, Tv mode for long-exposure night photography, and flash techniques for portrait photos using backdrops. We also practiced using P-mode while adjusting ISO and changing white balance to help give viewers more context and mood in our images. Learning these different settings helped us create photos that were not only more intentional, but also visually appealing.

Learning to use my DSLR with different settings has been really exciting and taught me a lot about photography. Using Av mode with shallow and deep depth of field helped me focus on specific subjects and made my photos feel more intentional and cinematic. I had a lot of fun experimenting with Tv mode and long-exposure night photography because it let me play with light and create effects I hadn’t tried before. Flash practice with portraits in front of backdrops showed me how lighting can completely change an image, even though sometimes the flash was a bit too bright. P-mode with ISO changes helped me understand how to adjust brightness, and while I enjoyed making photos lighter or darker. Changing the white balance was really interesting because it allowed me to give my photos a warmer or cooler mood depending on what I wanted to show. Reflecting on this experience, I feel more confident using my camera and excited to experiment with these techniques in my future projects.
