The Reflections Project is focused on the question, “Who am I?” Throughout the project, we reflected on our identities by finding our core values and identifying our strengths. We then used what we learned about ourselves to create different projects across our Freestyle classes. In Digital Media, we created personal mandalas using Adobe Illustrator and then used After Effects to create a video showing our mandala being built, and we also made a core values video reflecting upon what makes each person unique. In Animation, we made new characters and learned 3D modeling. In English, we reflected on our creative passions and made a Why I Write Essay, which was really a Why I [creative passion] essay. These projects allowed us to take what we learned about ourselves and turn it into creative work while also learning new skills with different programs.

To answer the question “Who am I”, I am a person who likes to sketch and take my time on things. I enjoy being able to put meaning into my art so that others can see what I am trying to convey without me having to explain it. The overarching goal of the unit was to figure out why I do art, and for me, it’s because throughout my whole life it’s the one thing that I never gave up on and stayed true to. My work reflects my core values because one of my core values is perseverance, and even though sometimes I feel like giving up, I still try to push through, and in the end I end up with a process that is very fun and that I am proud of.
