Humor

My Inspiration:

Pete Davidson and Gabriel Iglesias

Pete Davidson is a comedian on SNL that does humor through playing other roles. He does sketches in a lot of different forms. He used politics and news but also just prewritten sketches. He started off with stand up comedy.  He uses Puns, Jokes, Exaggerism, Conundrum and Caricature. Gabriel Iglesias better known as Fluffy is a stand-up comedian. He has multiple stand-up comedy films and he does live tours for his stand up comedy. He uses Puns, Jokes, Situation Humor. Both Comedians write their work but perform with a script. Nether just steps on stage anymore. They both do stand up comedy and use a lot of relatable points and make a twist around them. They both include themselves a lot in there work being their own person and speaking from personal experience. Pete also plays a lot of characters while Fluffy is always himself. The most diversity in topics is that Fluffy talks a lot more about family life and being “fluffy” and Spanish while Pete is making more jokes about his messed up past, his political opinions and questioning things that would think of questioning. Their styles are similar and really draw in the reader through over exaggerated facial expressions. They really convey what they are trying to be buy over accentuating there characters and really feeling the character. They have a way of telling negative stories in a funny way making people understand how you can lighten up a situation. The comedians are talking about really different topics with Pete making a lot of weed jokes and fluffy talking about well being Fluffy a lot of the times but they both use a similar way of showing that. Since Pete is on SNL he also does other things than just stand up but they both have the same kind of attitude on stage. They talk in an extremely calm way as if you would just be having a conversation with them and they tell there jokes in a way that they don’t laugh about it and almost question what they’re saying but the entire audience laughs.

My Idea

I want to more focus on having something personally relatable. My idea comes from driving in the car and singing songs with my friends and constantly laughing about the random word that doesn’t make sense in them. Sometimes I’d imagine what the rapper is actually saying and that is what brought me to exactly do that. I looked at the lyrics to one of my favorite funny songs (just songs that are funny even by just listening to them). I used a lot of different form of humor from the toolbox because I felt like there was no right and wrong and I saw the way I visualized it in a version that was obviously my personal opinion in a way. I looked at a lot of skits and stand-ups from Pete and what that really taught me is just saying and doing the bluntly obvious. I used a lot of words just the actual meaning because in the context of having a rap video that would just have someone eating kids was just funny too. Then I went down the comedy toolbox and looked at different humor terms and tried to use them. It was really fun working with trying out different senses of humor in a singular humor piece. A big influence was definitely having something out of our day to day life just looked at differently was seen from a lot of fluffy videos. He made me think about things I would not even think about normally and the absurdity of what some things could be. Although I have gotten off of my original idea of making a    sketch that explains what Germans say wrong making this music video is not so far off with that. I like word-twisters and double meanings behind work that can be humorous. I would say I am a person that overthinks certain words a lot until they are just absurd. That might even come from me not always knowing all words and trying to mix together what they mean. I think different comedians can just give you ideas but every person has there own sense of humor and this project was really about finding that and creating a piece on exactly that. I would not say I specifically know what my kind of humor is but I definitely think that my humor is definitely a more in the moment, relatable thing or a word-twisting, overthinking of words. We talk so much every day it is interesting to just switch up words and make people laugh from time to time. I had a lot of fun with this project although I am really sick of my song now.

My Proposal

A pre-recorded Music Video mainly based on the humor tools/techniques of Caricature, Exaggerism and Puns.
