Hello. My name is Nina Hermosa Clauer. As a Junior at Freestyle, I was a Film student, and I chose to focus on Design this year. I am really interested in traveling and exploring different cultures. I would like to emphasize this interest in my Travel Vlogs that I did for my Zenith Project. These Travel Vlogs are really important to me because they represent what I have learned at Freestyle as well as what I’m passionate about outside of the classroom. Primarily, I would like to get some feedback on my graphic design and advertisement work. If you have time, also please give me your reactions to the style of my Travel Vlogs, which I am planning on developing as a side job in my future career. I am planning on majoring in Biotechnology or Graphic Design. I want to find a way to design and develop things or substances to make human life easier. I am planning to attend Foothill and then transfer to a University in Europe. For any questions please contact me at ninaclauer@gmail.com

My personal favorite graphic design piece is the documentary book that I wrote and illustrated on Design Thinking. You can access my book through the link below:

For this project, I used graphics that literally and metaphorically added to the written content of the book. I used random materials found in offices like lightbulbs that are used in workspaces and added small details to them to not make them too literal and put a spin on them. I made the graphics to fill up empty space in a creative way to give the book more feeling. I made a bee graphic to represent metaphors from the text but it also added humor because of the look of the bee since the book is really static through its topic. I learned a lot about the usage of space and creation of graphics through the process of creating the book. This project made me grow a lot because being a published author was a huge deal for me. It made me really grow on my time management and having a big due date.

During the experience of making the Freestyle Promotion Video, I learned how to advertise and make a compelling promotion video. It helped me to understand to compensate between length and information. I learned different ways of how to advertise something through visuals and really grabbing the viewers attention. I grew through this process a lot in the sense of working with a group and having everyone’s input and also adding your input to a bigger project. This project helped me to learn to create a style for something else emphasizing the message that is trying to be conveyed.

I chose to make Travel Vlogs because I am really passionate about traveling. Ever since I was a little kid I had the amazing opportunity of being able to travel and visit countries all around the world. When I was twelve I wanted to figure out a way to show my friends even a glimpse of the countries that I had visited. I started taking short clips of landscapes and temples and somewhat edited them together in iMovie. For this project, I wanted to do make videos that really capture the feeling of the city that I was exploring. I wanted to make the music fit what kind of emotion I wanted to convey and to also put my own spin on it. I am was really intrigued by these kinds of trippy effects and working with speeding up and slowing down clips so that feel like they move to the music. I had a lot of inspiration from youtubers’ like Jay Alverez on the kind of shots I wanted to do. I also wanted to put an advertising part in the Travel Vlogs because that is essentially how people make money out of doing those videos. I also got a lot of creative inspiration from the brand Douchebags. I am really curious about pursuing this on the side of my main job in the future. I think it was my most successful project in the sense that I could really do and plan whatever I really was passionate about. I really got to set my own limits and experience sticking to your own idea through the entire process. It was about questioning yourself and growing on your true passions and creative styles. It made me grow a lot because it made my channel my creativity in a specific way that is useful for the future.
