About me

I am Oscar Ramirez Montiel, a senior at Mountain View High School. I’m 17 years old, and I am both American and Mexican. I have 3 brothers, and they mean a lot to me; they’ve each taken their own paths through their lives and have inspired me to take on my own. I still don’t know who I am exactly, but as of right now I wish to be someone inspiring and change the world, whether it’s through film or something as simple as writing a heartfelt message on someone’s coffee. 

As I’m growing older, my core values have shifted since freshman year, but as I’m entering adulthood, my core values would be honesty, growth, focus, ambition, financial stability, and compassion. These core values are very important to me because being a filmmaker requires all these core values, and I wish to develop them as I grow older. I think growth and focus would be my main priority, as sometimes it’s hard to stay focused, but I believe that it’s normal because with enough ambition and hunger, you will always get back on track no matter how long it takes.

I’m currently passionate about film, obviously specifically writing and directing, not because I want to create cool movies but because film is a gateway to speak out to the world. In my opinion, film is a great way to connect with people and sometimes even with yourself; for example, I went through depression and often felt disconnected from myself, but through writing, which later translated to film, I connected back to myself and found my passion. I’m also passionate about being a mentor or teacher later on in my career because I believe that future generations will need lots of mentoring and someone who can guide them.

I chose to be a freestyle student because of the amazing opportunity to work with others who are as passionate about art as I am. Also because it’s gonna be really fun to be in an environment where it’s just art and nothing else; I think it’ll be really relaxing as my last classes of the day. I value the friendships I have made so far and the friendships I will make as the school year progresses, and also the equipment because it’s expensive and not everyone has equipment like this.
