In Design class, all the students were required to make a book jacket. Following the instructions given for the project, I made my book jacket according to my story. The biggest challenge was to find a font that would relate to the story and would be readable.
Unlike other projects for this project we started from scratch without any draft. First, we picked some metaphor and main important events from the story. Then we took pictures relating to the selected events. After all the pictures were taken I eliminated and picked top five pictures. With Photoshop, I blended all five pictures in one. Then we had to find fonts for the book jacket on dafont.com. The challenge here was to find a font that would relate to the story and would be readable. Another challenge was to find a color scheme that would run through the entire book jacket. Then we made barcodes for our book from a web page provided by freestyle. We did bios, comments and more.
Art Statement.
A girl lives her life happily with her parents, but everything changes the second she finds herself running in a dark alley barefoot. She suddenly stops herself panting heavy. Why am I running? She question herself just then she hears a sound. She hears a squishy noise. Curiously she follows the sound and she steps on something moist but comforting to her burning foot.
She doesn't seem to remember what happened after but the very next day she wakes up with cold wind blowing on her fragile body. Shivering, she looks up at the open window which filled her nostrils with a familiar scent. Wanting to close the window, she stretches her arm, forcing her body to move forward to reach the window. Suddenly she feels a stinging pain all over her body. She looks at her arm and finds fresh bruises tearing open as she stretches. She follows her bruises now forming fresh blood and meeting the dry patches of blood staining her skin. She follows the trail of blood, then soon it covers her weak body. What was happening? Was this just another nightmare?
Here is the final product of book jacket,
After finishing the book jacket, we did a surreal art project. To start this project, we first imagined what out scene is going to look like or just plainly drew out our dreams. We did partner critique and picked our best idea. Soon after I picked the idea I went out and took a various picture. Again, I used Photoshop to blend all the pictures. We were required to have one HDR picture included in our surrealistic art.
Art Statement For Surrealism.
This art piece focuses on the real world and the dreamworld of a dreamer. The dreamer keeps falling on two different dreams that reflects one another. The dreamer is being trapped by her own imagination and it is impacting their real world.
For this art, I used Photoshop only. In Photoshop, I merged pictures, made all different color shadings, made smoke and the background galaxy. Also, I used a different brush like the water brush. All the pictures were taken in RAW. I used four different RAW pictures that are of a girl sitting on the utility pole, reflecting images inside the mouth, and the mouth itself. The two HDR pictures that are used are of a doll which is "falling out" of the water and the small tree like a plant as the foreground. The waterfall is supposed to represent a shape of a face and the waterfall representing the hair. The doll in the center is being pulled out by the girl sitting on a utility pole. The dreamer herself is confused and she is falling in a different direction as there is no gravity holding her back. The reflecting image is an image of a house with a clock on it, meaning the time can't be controlled now. The water falling from her lips represents the effect of her dreams.
