About Fear Factor

What makes sinister and grotesque horror in modern media so appealing? Is it cultivation of morbid curiosity? A thirst for violence? Today, Sarah and Colby, along with two other horror enthusiasts, attempt to answer this perplexing paradox.

About the Hosts

Sarah Martinez is a Senior at freestyle Academy and Mountain View High School. Aside from enjoying activities like dancing, singing, drawing, and signing time with family and friends, Sarah is also a Horror movie fan herself. Some of her favorites include Oculus, Babadook, and Us. Sarah will attend college next fall to study math and dance and hopes to later become a teacher in both subjects.

Colby is currently a senior at Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy. In his free time, Colby likes to play sports like soccer and lacrosse with his friends and enjoys walking his dog along pet-friendly trails. While he doesn’t consider himself a fan of horror, he can stomach most horror movies that aren’t super violent and gory. Next year, Colby will attend a four year college while studying mechanical engineering.

Introduction

Some of my favorite podcasts are all thrillers or horror podcasts on top of also being a horror movie fan for most of my life so I figured talking about why I as well as other people are attracted to gross things like horror would interesting because it’s something I can relate to that not many people like to talk about

Serial, Alice isn’t dead, terror talk.

Process

The first step, after discussing topics, was t plan out what type of podcast we should do.  Because our question could be interpreted in a wide variety of different ways and could vary a lot from person to person, we decided our podcast would be best portrayed as an interview based podcast. Featured below is our written plan for our podcast which includes our introduction and interview questions.

Featured below is our completed podcast.

Reflection

It was kind of hard to schedule interview times with my partner as well as with my interviewees. I also needed more time to edit and to find sound effects and things than I expected. If I were to do this project again, I would manage my time a little better and maybe plan out my script in a bit more detail to avoid having to go back and record bits and pieces at the end of the process.
