Introduction

I decided to showcase my two biggest projects here at Freestyle; Documentary and Zenith. These two were probably the most rewarding for me as I loved the finished result and I also worked very hard on both of them.

Leyla Boissonade: The Face of the Bay Area Dance School

This first project is my documentary book about my dance teacher and studio, Leyla Boissonade. This was a project I spent many hours and days working on gathering/taking photos, drawing graphic design elements, or just writing. This project mostly focused on layout and in a very specific way because our task was to create a book. Most of my graphic design elements were very simple as well as most of my spreads in the book. You can find the link to my book by clicking the photo below.

Seraphine Prints

This second project is my senior year project, Zenith. For my Zenith I created a Print company that designs, customizes, and ships wall print collages. The idea for my project was to create three baseline collages to feature, a workable website for customers, and packaging for my product. Obviously, this project required a lot more graphic design elements, but almost just as much Tim behind the camera. Below I featured some photos of my finished products, though the best way to look at them is on my website or my Zenith Presentation.

Personal reflection

Both of these projects are ones I am very pleased with and I put a lot of effort into though anyone can see the difference between my styles of design. My documentary project was so much more simplistic and had a very obvious color scheme. Most of the attention was on the text, as I used a lot of obvious quotes to fill space. And lastly, the graphics design element needed to create this project were very simple and were featured quite small, unless to fill a page. Though in my Zenith, my project was almost all graphic design elements, and none of them were quite simple. My prints and my website shows just how colorful and inviting the branding is supposed to be. There really was no set color scheme, as I was creating multiple pieces with different colors. I think my Zenith almost shows just how comfortable I’ve become as a designer, and how I am willing to take more risks to achieve my Ideas rather than playing it safe.

Personal reflection

Freestyle was probably the best decision I’ve made. Being here really allowed me to become more comfortable with myself as a person and an artist. I grew in subject areas such as English that I didn’t even enjoy prior to attending. Being surrounded by amazing and supportive staff as well as friends who are passionate about similar things as I am. Freestyle helped me discover who I am and taught me many important skills that I will definitely use in the future.
