For this unit, I was tasked to write, record, and design a narrative short story. At the end of this project I was able to write a short story, design my creature creation, and record my story. Thanks to the help of my english, digital media, and design class, I was able to complete all of these things.
In English, we learned the essential ideas and layout of a short fiction story. We learned how to use detailed description to help our reader visualize and be more entertained by our story. For my story, I was inspired by my some of my own struggles and life experiences. I wanted to make my main character and the plot relatable to my readers. My story revolves around a character named Alistar who is missing his past friends. This story covers a journey of moving on and being happy with your life. In Digital Media, we learned how to record and edit our story. I used my portable recorder and recorded my story. I then uploaded my story to pro tools and edited the quality of the audio and to fix any mistakes. Lastly, I added sound effects throughout the audio. Something I valued from writing this short story was the collaborative work that was involved. I appreciated and valued all of the support and helpful criticism form my peers. My story is called, Trapped in the Past.
For this project, we were forced to think more creatively and out of the box. In Digital Media, we had to decided what type of project we wanted to make. Stickers, clothing art, candle shades, and more. I decided to chose clothing art because I have always been passionate about clothes. In the end, I decided to re create the painting Fallen Angel, by Alexandre Cabanel. I wanted to focus on the head and the eyes of the painting. I places the photo into adobe illustrator and was able to get the general shape and idea of the painting. I then added the more detailed parts of the painting.
Another project that we did for this unit was a group project called the exquisite corpse project. This was a group project where each group gets an artboard that is separated into how many people were in your group. You then each get a section and draw connecting to the separation lines. The you put it together and see what you made.
For this project, we learned how to make a parody song. The parody project was a fun and collaborative project to work on and improve our pro tools and singing skills. I decided to work alone and make a parody of the song The Adults are Talking, by The Strokes. I made the lyrics about my covid experience, again trying to make the listener relate to my work.
My weekend morning routine(the adults are talking by The Strokes)
Verse 1:
I wake up at 11
I wake up to scratching
My cats are waiting
For me to feed them
My mother is wanting for me to do the dishes
Id rather be asleep dreaming
So I can be lazy
So i can be lazyyyy
Verse 2:
Then I open the fridge
And start making food
I should probably do some homework
Who I am I kidding
I love to procrastinate
I walk back to my room
And open my computer
Open my computer
Chorus:
I wake up to my cats meowing
Then i roll out of bed feeling so lazy
I look at my phone to check the time
Then lay back in bed till the day turns to night
Open canvas and view the workload to do
Then decide to do it later and open youtube
Because i love to procrastinate
Even though its so bad for me
Throughout this year, we did multiple small and big projects. One of our big projects was our creature creattion. This project stems from our short story writing in english. I chose 5 animal body parts that each represneted a characteristic of our main character. Then with the help of adobe illustrator I drew and traced each animal body part to create a new creature creation.
Another project that we completed before we moved onto the documentary project was a watercoloring project. In illustrator we wrote our name with large fancy letters and mirrored it. We then printed it out and used a knowledge of color theory to color it in.
