Documentary

In English, Digital Media, and Animation we were assigned to create a documentary that shines light to a small business or person who you didn’t know prior.

We were encouraged to look around town to find something that inspired a story. I had a idea of what I wanted to do for my documentary because I figure skate at one of the most beautiful ice skating rinks in California.

Winter Lodge, in Palo Alto. A hidden gem for family’s and bypasses looking for something fun to do over the winter season. I personally wanted to know how this rink came to be such a staple in the Palo Alto community and how it has lasted for so many years facing challenges of business alike crumbled under.

English

Through English I was able to give them their unacknowledged story I wanted to tell. We wrote a paper and wile collecting information from interviews we where able to use audio for animation that gave me my animation documentary material.

Animation

In Animation we creating a animation with our recorded interview talking about their story. I animated the main scans of the story to highlight the importance of the business and how much the community cherished it.

Digital Media

Once we had our written paper of the documentary we needed to make it into a magazine. I wanted to add images to show the beauty not every person could see. I also wanted to create images that showed some accents the Winter Lodge has the not many pay attention to.

I wanted to get a picture of the Christmas tree they post every Christmas for the holidays. I also asked for some older skaters phots to show how long the Winter Lodge has been caring on tradition’s. I love the Winter Lodge as it is a magical place that I hope I brought forth to some peoples eyes catching their attention and going for some holiday fun.

Reflection

This project was super fun to make but also very stressful because I had a expectation I had for myself. I wanted to make this project the best piece I have produced but it didn’t turn out that way. I’m super proud of what I did accomplish but the timing and expectation I had for myself was to much letting me fall behind and not producing what I thought I was going to.

I’m still super proud of how everything came out and I’m proud of what I did manage to produce.
