Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the narrative unit, I learned how to structure my stories and effectively communicate my emotions and include artistic elements in my writing. In English I was able to create a story that the readers would find easy to visualize and connect to. In Digital media I was challenge to use my storytelling skills and translate my story to graphic design and audio editing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reunited<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my light cover project I decided to create a representation of a universal topic, love. I named it \u201cReunited\u201d. For this project, I used as inspiration, two of my all-time favorite fictional characters, Ruby and Sapphire, and the title from one of their centric episodes from Cartoon Network\u2019s \u201cSteven Universe\u201d. Very often I\u2019ve found myself admiring Rebecca Sugar\u2019s work on the show and the topics she covers for an all-age audience. Love of all shapes and forms is only one of those many topics. In my light cover design, I hoped to capture the idea of how (quoting the main character of the show)  \u201cthey\u2019re [Ruby and Sapphire] so close, they cannot stand to be apart\u201d. As the light cover is connected, you can notice how both characters are, in fact, together. Since early episodes of the show, it is explained how fusions were a representation of two gem\u2019s relationship, Ruby and Sapphire formed Garnet, a gem who with time grew and learned more about who she was as her own person and the embodiment of Ruby and Sapphire\u2019s love, thus also representing what self-love should be. It\u2019s quite difficult to describe how the entire universe of fusions in Steven Universe works, but I do adore how Rebecca Sugar has put together a show that features important topics like these that had not been done in a cartoon before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With my light cover project, I intended to create the symbols of both characters to represent this topic of all kinds of love, I really enjoyed creating this concept with Illustrator, I\u2019ve been having a lot of fun using this program, knowing to identify the tools was very challenging but after being more familiarized with the app I really enjoyed using vectors and its anchors to change the figures to create the inner part of my design for the light cover which, are both character\u2019s gemstones and how they look like in the show.

\tFacet-2F5L cut 5XG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello, my name is Sofia and for my Illustrator project, I decided to create a series of stickers as fan art from the show Steven Universe. I call it, \u201cFacet-2F5L cut 5XG\u201d, which references the origins of the very own Peridot, a main character from the show, that is present as part of these stickers. The message I tried to convey for this project was the individuality of oneself. Yet again, I am fascinated with the topics that Rebecca Sugar (creator of Steven Universe) covers in her show, for my stickers I wanted to create some \u201cfanart\u201d of Peridot and things that represent her and she loves. From her pumpkin friend to her stuffed alien. In the show, Peridot goes through a series of events that challenge her to change her perspective on a planet she was bound to destroy, she goes through a lot of character development from where she started as a \u201csingle-purpose gem\u201d to her very own unique self. She gets to experiment with the ever-changing planet earth and throughout the show, she breaks the barrier that restricted her from discovering different options of who to be. The message, being more than I was intended to be, resonated with me a lot and it\u2019s why I inspire from this character so much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With my knowledge of how to use Illustrator, I found it very rewarding to have used this program to create one of my favorite characters with lines, adjusting the strokes, the fill and the colors for each one. In the end, I would look back and tried to improve the design to be more aesthetic and pleasing to the eye. I really like how the final piece came out and I\u2019m glad that I was able to add more designs than originally planned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this assignment was to come up with a short story that could tell a story in a short period of time. We formed and together we began sketching out concepts to for our animation until we found one we felt could communicate a topic that could resonate with us and our audience. After finishing up our second storyboard, we began creating our animation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
