Flowers

Even though this looks like a classic close-up shot of some roses, my goal was to use the layers of the petals to tell a story about nature’s timing. At first glance, your eyes are immediately drawn to the main yellow rose blooming perfectly right in the center. By framing the shot tightly around the cluster, I wanted to create a narrative about growth and connection, showing how the older, fading roses in the background subtly support and frame the fresh new blossom. I thought it was a cool way to tell a story about different stages of life happening all at once in the exact same place. It helped me connect to the idea that flowers aren’t just pretty objects, because the way they bloom together shows a natural timeline of change.

When I was taking this picture, I loved how the soft pink edges contrasted with the warm yellow centers, making the petals look like they were glowing from the inside out. I had to position the camera carefully to keep the middle rose sharply in focus while letting the surrounding flowers softly blur out into the edges of the frame. The whole process made me realize how macro photography can reveal a hidden story in something as simple as a garden bed. It reminded me that a good photo doesn’t just capture a single flower, but the whole mood and atmosphere of the moment it decided to open up.
